El Angel de la Capilla

This is a portrait of Vicente Estevan. Every year in the Capilla of Villalonga, a small village in Spain, he has laboriously made a giant religious painting using only coloured sand :– “La Alfombra” .
It covers the whole floor of the chapel
Each year during the celebration of Corpus Christi it is blessed by the Priest and forms the basis of a religious festival for the whole village. At the end of the festival the floor is swept clean and Vicente starts to plan for the following year.
He has been doing this with no reward every year for nearly seventy years. It is his life’s work.
Vicente is currently 88 years old. This is his last Alfombra

The Exhibition
In October 2021 “El Angel de la Capilla” was exhibited in Villalonga
It gave a chance for the people of the village to celebrate the contribution that Vicente Estevan had made to their lives
Vicente and his family were there at the opening of the exhibition
He will not make another Alfombra
At the end of the exhibition “El Angel de la Capilla“ will be moved and housed in the Capilla as a permanent memorial to Vicente Estevan
La exposicion
El pasado 9 de octubre de 2021 se exibió en Villalonga “el Angel de la Capilla”
Ha sido una oportunidad para celebrar la contribución que Vicente Esteban ha hecho a su pueblo a lo largo de toda su vida.
Es por ello, que, al final de la exposición, “El Ángel de la Capilla” será trasladado y albergado en la Capilla como monumento permanente a toda su obra.
