Three days ago, I attended Peter’s exhibition opening in Valencia. It was the highlight of my day. Peter’s works are unsettling. For a long time, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from “View-1987”. At the center of this work lies an old photograph featuring a bouquet—one that was alive back then, forty years ago. One might admire it; perhaps it is linked to warm memories. Yet, framed on either side, the bouquet extends into a continuation: fragile plaster flowers, frozen forever. What better metaphor for memory could there be? A bouquet here, a bouquet there—take your pick, it seems. Yet both are dead.

Hace tres días, asistí a la inauguración de la exposición de Peter en Valencia. Fue lo más destacado de mi día. Las obras de Peter son inquietantes. Durante mucho tiempo, no pude apartar los ojos de “View- 1987”. En el centro de esta obra yace una vieja fotografía que presenta un ramo, uno que estaba vivo entonces, hace cuarenta años. Uno podría admirarlo; quizá esté vinculado a recuerdos cálidos. Sin embargo, enmarcado a ambos lados, el ramo se extiende en una continuación: frágiles flores de escayola, congeladas para siempre. ¿Qué mejor metáfora para la memoria podría haber? Un ramo aquí, un ramo allí: elige el que quieras, parece. Sin embargo, ambos están muertos.
