Failing Head

The overall feeling is of sadness and loss

At first it seems it is just normal ageing forgetfulness. Then the constant repetition of words and actions

It was awful to see Mum with her head in her hands saying: “I don’t feel in control anymore. I don’t know what is happening”

It is hard to see an intelligent, very capable person, full of life, slowly becoming empty. No sparkle in her eyes anymore –  just a dull blank stare.

And yet…..sometimes we will share a special moment together.

We will laugh uncontrollably about something that has just happened. We will share special intimate secrets between mother and daughter. She will remember how much she used to love being cuddled every morning.

The old sparkle comes back in her eyes. The clouds part, the sun comes out and just for a brief moment I have my Mum back
