Folding Face
2018
Emilia has dementia. These pieces attempt to explore her situation.
Her face folds back to reveal sudden changes in her mood, how she used to be before her forgetfulness came and how it may be affecting those closest to her.
The different facets of her folding face also offer glimpses inside her head, reflecting the range of emotions she might be feeling and show the progressive fading out, the distortion and the slow disappearance of her ‘self ’
This is a set of sixteen pieces of work. Each is a three-dimensional structure. The first pieces use a single simple fold to reveal what is underneath. The subsequent pieces use increasingly complex overlapping and double folds. They change appearance in different lights and from different viewpoints.
They form a sort of advent calendar, slowly revealing hidden details. They are photo origami
